Role of periostin in evaluating the responsiveness of allergic patients to allergen-specific immunotherapy

Objectives: Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) has been considered the most effective treatment for IgE mediated allergies, especially respiratory allergies. Several biomarkers have developed to evaluate clinical efficacy of AIT, yet none them thoroughly validated. So our objective here is investigate usefulness periostin as a biomaker monitoring allergen immunotherapy. Materials and methods: This study included 46 healthy non-atopic volunteers patients with allergic rhinitis (AR). They were sensitized only date palm pollen. The participants tested by skin prick test total serum levels measured. Serum samples collected from subjects before after one-year AIT. periostin, eotaxin, sIL-2R estimated ELISA. Symptom scores in also evaluated completing one year Results: There significant increase IgE, sIL-2R, eotaxin compared controls. scores, significantly decreased AIT AR patients.
